Lil Yasir and Hassan

Paediatric is my worst subject ever. I love kids but I dont feel like being in this department. It is so rigid I tell ya! and I cant even spell Paediatric correctly without autocorrect.

During our Paediatric posting in Zanzibar, me and my friend both have our favourite kids. I mean, kids that we love to play with whenever we are in the hospital. My friend Ilyana, she loves to, shall I say bully this kid named Hassan. Hassan was admitted due to Nephrotic syndrome (a  kidney disease). He has this obvious puffy face and always sully and moody and expressionless. We became fond to talk to him everyday because whenever we tried to call out his name, he will just stare at us blankly, without any expression. He is silently hilarious seriousle!

My favourite kid was Yasir. He was a brother to one of the patients there. He was so clingy and super excited whenever he sees us. He literally loves to cling (if thats the right word lol idk). There was this one time, as i was playing with him, I took out a pentorch from my pocket, i thought kids would get attracted to light. But as soon as i took it out, his face totally changed! He instantly ran away from me and hid behind his mom. LOL so cute. I'll look up some vids of them soon

Life as a 5th year student

Alhamdulillah, managed to survived till 5th year!
And that comes with a greater responsibility for sure. Responsibility to learn and grab as much knowledge and experience as i could before calling myself a full fledged doctor. Doakan ye. Doakan saya berjaya.

Anyway, speaking of being a doctor, I have no idea why I get easily moved with my patient's story lol. Too much of empathy pun tak boleh ye dok. My intention here was not to break any confidentiality but just to share a story that might moved you too? Maybe. Because we need to treat patient holistically, we have to explore their social aspect too, family dynamic, financial etc

There is this uncle, he had a motor vehicle accident together with his wife (he broke his arm) He has 2 children, both are schooling and their only income is from selling nasi lemak every morning and some part time job which monthly collectively they obtained bout RM1200. Monthly, RM500 goes to his house installment and you can do the rest of the calculation. Sounds tight, but to him, it is enough. But due to the accident, his motor bike was badly damaged (his only vehicle), and he had to pay RM6000+ for his external fixation. "Saya tak boleh balik lagi sebab takde duit nak bayar ini (pointing to his external fixator) kalau 1000, 2000 macam tu boleh la saya bayar. 6000 saya tak tau mana nak cari" Worst, both of them cant work at the moment because of the injury. Kesian. But good news, I heard he is receiving some financial aid from badan kebajikan mesyarakat. Yeay! But can you imagine what is he going through? Basically RM700 for a month with 2 schooling kids?! Im not sure how he managed that but i salute him, despite everything, he always smile and his laugh is contagious!

"Orang cakap ambil medic ni takde life tapi medic ni la yang banyak ajar life kat aku" - quoted from someone.

Palliative care

First time setting foot in the palliative care unit. Seeing all the terminally ill patients is just a heart breaking experience. Imagine being in their shoes and knowing that you have only few days/weeks to live.

So i was one of the last ones to leave this patient. After bidding goodbye, he replied "terima kasih, doakan pakcik selamat ye" with his obvious glassy eyes.  I cant say, jangan risau pakcik, semuanya akan selamat. because obviously he wont survive this battle. Just hoping the best for him.

Madrasah Zanzibar

While I was greedily filling my plate with food from the buffet table (yesterday for buka), suddenly I received messages from 2 friends, telling me bout a documentary on tv, Madrasah in Zanzibar.
Zanzibar, where my feet stood last 2 months..

It has been two months since I left Zanzibar. The memories are still fresh :)
Honestly I miss that place. I miss how nice the people are.
And i feel the need to share this story with you guys.

I forgot his name (I actually forgot to ask), but we met him during an outreach program in a primary school in Mto Pepo. Just so you know, Mto Pepo is where you can find most of the poor people in Zanzibar Island. The pupils go to school with torn uniforms, bare footed, and carry bags that are made from sacks. Hence all the kids were very unkempt, except this boy he was very neat and tidy. He wore a wrinkle-free uniform, with a pair of sport shoes and carried a proper school bag. He caught our attention, of course and we built rapport.

Later, while we were busy focusing on screening the children one by one, this boy approached us. He took out an Al Quran from his bag and passed it to my friend, who was sitting right next to me. Without hesitation, he told my friend to recite the holy Quran. I gave my friend the look and laughed. At that moment i thought it was cute and funny - and was actually glad he didnt give it to me instead *yikes*. My friend chose to recite Al Bakarah, and she did while the atmosphere were filled with silence. After few verses, he stopped her (by that time, we were surrounded by few other kids and doctors) with his hand gesture. Then he started to talk confidently, genuinely as you can see in the video below

I did not record the whole video because I did not understand a single word he said but I was amazed by the way he talked. It was a long lecture. We tried to listen but could not comprehend any of them until one of the doctors did the translation

I dont remember the whole thing but I remember there was this one part when he pointed our pants. He actually wanted to warn us not to wear pants. He said that a woman should not wear pants and should cover their aurat and dress modestly etc etc. He even described to us the consequence if we did not cover our aurat properly in akhirat (life hereafter) *major OUCHH* Well it is kinda embarrassing because it came out from a small kid rather then an adult. I was affected for sho! Later, I kept on repeating the same skirt over and over again for the next remaining 3 weeks, since I only have one skirt.

Im telling this because I know how they see Islam. For us, reciting AlQuran, is just a form of spiritual activity, but they see Al Quran as a way of life. How life should be according to the syariah. They read, understand and apply. Unlike us. Anyway, bout the madrasah thing, there's a bank account where you can donate. More details in fedtriyahya's instagram. Here are some photos while we were in Mto Pepo

wow im now 21. forever 21 lah. i cant believe how time flies. i cant believe i am twenty one and top of that, i cant believe my P license gone already. yeay for that. semalam, i spring clean hardisk i sbb dah penuh. i wanted to remove some files and bumped into this video. special dedication to sean, nuha, naem, nozie, leum, farhah, ery :)

rindunya lah zaman sekolah. i mutekan video ni sebab nak censor things i said. well, visual is enough aite? masa ni, the very last weekend, a day before our last spm paper. can you believe that? this video was taken 4 years ago. it was the day when our band junior nak pegi thailand for orchestra. how lucky. kami hanya mampu menumpang kegembiraan dan menyumbang kejelesan. dan masa ni, bandroom baru nak renovate. sekarang bandroom dah cun. tak jumpalah gambar latest bandroom tapi haritu i nampak kat someone's fb, mmg cantik sgt sekarang. much much proper. rindunya sekolah. nak visit stf so soo bad. this school taught me a lot. muchas gracias muah muahh.

p/s: can anyone tell me how to make this video bigger? pretty pleasee

sunday inspiration

i have seen this scenario before. i thought it was just something plain until i saw this video. derek redmond was an olympic runner. he had sudden pain in his hamstring while in the race. this video inspires me when at the end of the video, he had 65000 standing ovation and magic words were displayed
"when you dont give up. you cannot fail"
it alarms me on how much i complain on my failure. college can be so intense so stressful no matter what course you are taking. i might not be the genius girl who gets perfect score in her exam but i always try hard to be one. i always have these words in mind, extraordinary result comes from extraordinary effort. i cant afford to be like other people, genius poeple who study less and get good result. no im not one of those. i need to work hard to get slightly good result. some unfortunate situation, when i study really hard, i still get bad result and you know la how the feeling is. but one thing we have to keep in mind, dont give up. never give up and most important, always remember the creator.

i remember my previous exam, that night was disastrou! slides and papers were everywhere. i got so panic. i dont know where to start even though i had gone through my slides for few times. it was 1030pm and i almost gaveup. i went to my room and recited yasin. that was the last thing i could do. after finishing it, i still feel uneasy. i went tru my notes again and off to sleep. the next morning, miracle happened. most questions seem familiar. im not saying that i will definitely get good result, no but i feel like Allah helped me to go through the exam. so no matter how hard you work, always remember the almighty. and yes, never ever give up.

stress is common. all you need is a reliable friend for you to share. cry is the best therapy. it may not help the situation to be better, but atleast for temporary relief. so whenever you see me crying, please note that it is just my way to calm myself. not that i give up

best kan lagu ni? sukakan lagu ni? can you imagine jlo is now 41 years old? i repeat, 41 years old and still a hottie! jaw dropping :D haha. ok, i know korang semua tau lagu ni and agree she is hot, the song is cool and whatsoever. i just nak share what i thought about this song.

at the very beginning dengar lagu ni, i rasa macam pernah dengar, macam familiar sangat. masa first time dengar tu, masa tu dalam kereta and i think i was with my friends, ainil and mirra and i kept saying, "korang rasa pernah dengar tak lagu ni? macam something traditional. seriously i pernah dengar lagu ni". i know lagu ni lagu baru tapi music dia sangat familiar. sampailah last wednesday, i met my other friend, acey
him: pernah tak dengar lagu ni?
me:  tulah, i rasa pernah dengar sebelum ni tapi tak tau dari mana
him: ni lagu pasar malam. perasan tak macam ada mainan-mainan yang ada music tu. kan ada lagu ni kan.
*dialogue direka sebab tak ingat exactly apa dia cakap tapi message dia macam ni lah hehe*

haaaa, then only i remember, betullah. patutlah macam pernah dengar hahha. get me?? mainan yang ada jual kat pasar malam. ada patung yang joget-joget tu. kan music dia sama. haaaa no wonder sounds familiar and one more thing, please watch this;

ini lah dia lagu original dia. lambada in 1989. tak lahir lagi haha. sang by a brazillian vocalist loalwa braz. haaa sekarang baru tahu. ingatkan jlo suka lagu pasar malam hehe. ok not! maybe ada value kot lagu ni which i do not know.
