Lil Yasir and Hassan

Paediatric is my worst subject ever. I love kids but I dont feel like being in this department. It is so rigid I tell ya! and I cant even spell Paediatric correctly without autocorrect.

During our Paediatric posting in Zanzibar, me and my friend both have our favourite kids. I mean, kids that we love to play with whenever we are in the hospital. My friend Ilyana, she loves to, shall I say bully this kid named Hassan. Hassan was admitted due to Nephrotic syndrome (a  kidney disease). He has this obvious puffy face and always sully and moody and expressionless. We became fond to talk to him everyday because whenever we tried to call out his name, he will just stare at us blankly, without any expression. He is silently hilarious seriousle!

My favourite kid was Yasir. He was a brother to one of the patients there. He was so clingy and super excited whenever he sees us. He literally loves to cling (if thats the right word lol idk). There was this one time, as i was playing with him, I took out a pentorch from my pocket, i thought kids would get attracted to light. But as soon as i took it out, his face totally changed! He instantly ran away from me and hid behind his mom. LOL so cute. I'll look up some vids of them soon

Life as a 5th year student

Alhamdulillah, managed to survived till 5th year!
And that comes with a greater responsibility for sure. Responsibility to learn and grab as much knowledge and experience as i could before calling myself a full fledged doctor. Doakan ye. Doakan saya berjaya.

Anyway, speaking of being a doctor, I have no idea why I get easily moved with my patient's story lol. Too much of empathy pun tak boleh ye dok. My intention here was not to break any confidentiality but just to share a story that might moved you too? Maybe. Because we need to treat patient holistically, we have to explore their social aspect too, family dynamic, financial etc

There is this uncle, he had a motor vehicle accident together with his wife (he broke his arm) He has 2 children, both are schooling and their only income is from selling nasi lemak every morning and some part time job which monthly collectively they obtained bout RM1200. Monthly, RM500 goes to his house installment and you can do the rest of the calculation. Sounds tight, but to him, it is enough. But due to the accident, his motor bike was badly damaged (his only vehicle), and he had to pay RM6000+ for his external fixation. "Saya tak boleh balik lagi sebab takde duit nak bayar ini (pointing to his external fixator) kalau 1000, 2000 macam tu boleh la saya bayar. 6000 saya tak tau mana nak cari" Worst, both of them cant work at the moment because of the injury. Kesian. But good news, I heard he is receiving some financial aid from badan kebajikan mesyarakat. Yeay! But can you imagine what is he going through? Basically RM700 for a month with 2 schooling kids?! Im not sure how he managed that but i salute him, despite everything, he always smile and his laugh is contagious!

"Orang cakap ambil medic ni takde life tapi medic ni la yang banyak ajar life kat aku" - quoted from someone.
